Review/plot:
This was the back-up story in Marvel Fanfare #27 that i've had to split from the Daredevil story for chronological placement reasons. It's entirely by Marc Hempel, and has very Ditko-esque art and basically a non-story of Peter Parker bored in his apartment.

Peter ends his boredom by calling JJ.

Cute and fun. Between this and the Daredevil story (and some Bob McLeod New Mutant pin-ups), not sure i'd be happy if i'd paid the $1.50 for the issue in realtime but it's a nice change of pace in my project.

Quality Rating: B

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: An opening passage has a few considerations for us regarding placement. Peter is working for the Bugle and all of his bills are currently paid. Aunt May is "healthier than ever". Peter has just spent a few days in Florida with Mary Jane, and he's had a "week-and-a-half off" with nothing going on. We also know this occurs after Normie Osborn is born, thanks to an answering machine message. The MCP has this pretty much at publication date, directly before the Missing In Action story kicks off.

This is probably Hempel's first Marvel work; he was previously known before this for Firsts's Mars, WaRP's Blood Of The Innocent, and stuff for various schlocky 1970s magazines.

As far as I know, it was Hempel's only work for Marvel proper.
He did a few things for Epic. Not very much of note there either.

Although probably one of the most historically insignificant stories ever told in the Marvel universe, it was purposefully done so, the charm in this type of humor is a part of Marvel's character that makes its way in moments like the end credits "shawarma" scene in the Avengers movie.
