Review/plot:
Spider-Man has been in a hospital after passing out while fighting the Man-Thing last issue. His doctor is Claire Temple, former Luke Cage love interest.

Also in the hospital is Matt Murdock, the lawyer for "Peepers" Scanlon, a mobster that is turning state's evidence.

Solarr's motivations have always been unclear. He started off a sort of nihilist hippie, but he's been a lot more generic in subsequent appearances (and recently he's mainly played the role of Project Pegasus Prisoner). In this story he's just interested in re-establishing his reputation by killing Peepers.

Spider-Man and Daredevil stop Solarr.

The mob guy tries to escape by taking a kid hostage, but then becomes overwhelmed by guilt.

I liked this panel. I think it can be re-purposed to great effect.

Hey Spider-Man! One day you're going to marry Mary Jane, but then later your marriage will get eaten by Mephisto. What do you think of that?

Chronological Placement Considerations: Spider-Man wakes up in a hospital here after passing out at the end of MTU #122. For Daredevil i've placed this before the big run in Daredevil #183-191 that i have in a trade.

References:

  • It's said that Solarr escaped "in the recent chaos that almost destroyed" Project Pegasus, with a footnote to Marvel Two-In-One #57. That wasn't "recent" - it was published in 1979, and Solarr subsequently was shown to still be a prisoner of Project Pegasus in Dazzler #9 (Nov 81). So Solarr must have escaped after that; in the chaos caused by Dazzler's visit.
  • In addition to his injuries from the fight with the Man-Thing, Spider-Man says his ankle is still hurting from dealing with Cobra and Hyde in Amazing Spider-Man #232.
  • One of the policemen guarding the mob informant witnessed Leap-Frog stopping the Speed Demon in Marvel Team-Up #121.

Comments

You seriously should use that panel more often, particularly with "One More Day".
