Review/plot:
Another Claremont-less issue, and it hurts for it. Wonder Man and Spider-man get into a fight with the Griffin...

...who becomes more feral and less intelligent the more he is attacked.

Spider-man realizes it, but Wonder Man is too busy trying to prove himself and not show fear and keeps hitting the creature.

In the end it doesn't really matter all that much.

Griffin actually showed up at the Avengers Mansion looking for the Beast, but the Beast wasn't home at the time, so he had to settle for Wonder Man.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 2 - evolution of the Griffin.

Chronological Placement Considerations: Spider-Man appears here between Amazing Spider-Man #186-187. The MCP places Wonder Man here after Avengers annual #8 and before Avengers #179.

Huh. Well, this is a big one from my childhood. I'll have to go back and read it again, but eight-year-old me thought it was pretty intense. And Wonder-Man's fear issues were such a new concept in superhero comics for me that I was pretty intrigued.
I guess if you're reading a long string of Claremont issues and this one pops up the style shift can seem a little abrupt...
