Characters Appearing: Falcon, Glory Grant, Redwing, Spider-Man
Marvel Team-Up #30
Issue(s): Marvel Team-Up #30
One of them turns out to be her cousin, clearly drugged. While Spider-Man goes to investigate, Grant calls "a friend of a freind", Sam Wilson, who happens to be the Falcon. The two heroes meet up at a disco, and for once they don't have the prerequisite Misunderstanding Fight, instead getting right down to the business of beating up thugs. Here's a pretty cheesy panel.
They find out that the culprit who has been drugging kids is from the Merriwell family. The Merriwells are apparently "the original bleeding heart liberals" and Spider-Man is shocked to think that they might actually be drugging young kids and forcing them into crime. It turns out to be the younger brother, who felt that the older brother was being used and tricked by charities. He dresses himself up as Midas the Golden Man but he has no powers and Spidey and the Falcon make short work of him.
Midas is surprisingly underrepresented in this comic. This is about the clearest shot you get of him in costume.
Quality Rating: C
Chronological Placement Considerations: There's nothing going on here that dictates placement for either character. When Glory calls Sam, he first wonders if it may be Captain America calling, but that doesn't really indicate anything specific.
Continuity Insert? N
My Reprint: N/A
I'm only dimly aware of how much a pain in the neck it is keeping these MTUs straight with the rest of the monthlies, but it seems kind of weird placing this right when Falcon is in a coma in Captain America

I agree, George. I've moved Captain America #189-190 back in publication time to take place prior to this story. Thanks.

Here Spiderman free himself and the Falcon from a freezing cellar by throwing some web fluid between a door and the wall: the fluid would expand like any other. This should question his physics major degree. But the plan works, so I guess that in MU fluids behave oddly.

fnord12: If you care, Web of Spider-Man Annual #3 has a full page shot of Midas in their "Forgotten Foes of Spider-Man" Pin ups.
