Credits:
Roger Slifer & Len Wein - Script
Marv Wolfman - Plot

Vincent Colletta - Inker

Review/plot:
All that really matters about this story is the title, which is awesome.

Other than that, it's Luke Cage and the Thing meeting, having a misunderstanding fight...

...and teaming-up to fight a 1950's style science monster.

Awesome title.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: The MPC places Luke Cage's appearance here and FF #168-170 between Power Man #31-32. The Thing appears in a big run of Two-In-Ones, from #13-19, and Marvel Team-Up #47, between FF #165-166.

References:

  • Luke Cage previously borrowed a shuttle from the Fantastic Four to fight Dr. Doom in Hero For Hire #9. This time, the Thing and Cage take the Pogo Plane.
  • Trying to flip Braggadoom, the Thing compares its weight to the H-Bomb he had to lift in Marvel Two-In-One #10.

Comments

This story got heavily criticized in later MTIO letter columns for its perceived clownishness.

Per FOOM#11, this is Roger Slifer's first story for Marvel.

The title looks to have been inspired by the Lerner-Loewe musical "Brigadoon", centering around a mysterious village in the Scottish Highlands. It has the distinction of being originally adapted for the Broadway stage in 1947 (with a revival in 1980), a film in 1954, and a TV series in 1966. "Brigadoon" had a significant run at my own hometown's Tennessee Theater not long after the 1980 revival.
