Marvel Two-In-One #75Issue(s): Marvel Two-In-One #75 Review/plot: ![]() ...but it's a dud of a story. It's the first meeting of Annihilus and Blastaar... ![]() ...but it's the typical bad guys work together while scheming behind each-others' backs scenario. They've also got the Super-Adaptoid working for them, which is pretty cool. ![]() DeFalco tries to re-create the magic of the super-hero poker games first seen in Marvel Two-In-One #51, but he doesn't have the right knack for humorous dialogue. ![]() But that's how the Avengers get involved. Ugh, the dialogue is just soooo bad. And such weak characterization. Hawkeye: It would take a braver man than this archer to try and bluff the Living Legend of World War II. Wasp: The Beast is right! Our duty is clear! {Thought bubble:} "Besides, I'm dying to know what fashions they're wearing in other dimensions. ![]() ![]() Most of the issue is a big space battle. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's nice to see the Super-Adaptoid still adapting, instead of being stuck in the form of the first group of Avengers that he fought. ![]() ![]() Needless to say, the good guys win, in part because of inter-bad-guy strife. ![]() Oh, and Blastaar has a giiiiiiirlfriend... ![]() ...but Annihilus kills her. Blastaar retaliates by stealing Annihilus' Cosmic Control Rod. The end! ![]() Quality Rating: C Chronological Placement Considerations: Reed, Sue & Franklin are on a trip to the Himalayas. The Vision & the Scarlet Witch opted to spend some time alone instead of playing poker. Hawkeye is technically not in the Avengers at this time, but he had been hanging out with them in an unofficial capacity on and off so it's no surprise to see him showing up for a poker game. Basically, everyone here is context-free. The MCP places this between Fantastic Four #228-229 and Avengers #206-207. References:

He's been with Marvel so long that that's pretty much forgotten. Posted by: Mark Drummond | September 11, 2011 4:53 PM This issue does become important later on in the Fantastic Four's run. Posted by: clyde | February 22, 2015 2:25 PM I always enjoyed this as a fun issue. It follows the important Marvel rule of course that you should never trust Blastaar. As I recall, this has far-reaching consequences, because Annihilus losing his rod will end up with his coming to Earth during the Byrne run, leading to the Vision getting injured, then hooking him up with ISAAC, then him trying to take over the world. Posted by: Erik Beck | April 27, 2015 7:15 PM @fnord12: Interesting DeFalco later writes Avengers Annual #16 where Hawkeye not only "pulls a fast one" on Cap, but the Grandmaster as well. Nice evolution of the character from his comments here:) Posted by: Nathan Adler | April 27, 2015 8:20 PM Comments are now closed. |
