Master of Kung Fu #62-63

Issue(s): Master of Kung Fu #62, Master of Kung Fu #63
Cover Date: Mar-Apr 78
Title: "Red seas" / "Hiding cats"
Credits:
Doug Moench - Writer
Jim Craig - Penciler
John Tartaglione - Inker

Review/plot:
No inker is listed for issue #63. Craig gets a credit for "artist". That may mean he produced the inks as well (although he is "artist" on issue #62 as well and there is still an inker listed).

Moench returns to the scene of one of his best MOKF stories with a story about the Cat. Shang-Chi returns to Hong Kong to find that nothing is how he left it, with the Cat's lover no longer singing at her club...

...and with the Cat returned to more straightforward villainy and working for the Communists again.

The disheveled state of affairs is reflective of both Shang-Chi's relationship with his own supporting cast and the MI-6 organization, as well as the state of the series itself, which is a shadow of its former self without Gulacy on art.

Skull-Crusher, from issue #61, appears in #63 for a rematch.

And Pavane is around as well.

Comments

It's a pity you abandoned the story here; the transition from Craig to Zeck is awkward and there's a fill-in due to Craig's deadline troubles, but it's worth it. Especially the coda in issue #69. ("..to lower heights.")
