Micronauts: The New Voyages #16

Issue(s): Micronauts: The New Voyages #16
Cover Date: Jan 86
Title: "Economies of scale!"
Credits:
Peter Gillis - Writer
Kelley Jones - Penciler
Dan Bulanadi - Inker
Ralph Macchio - Editor

Review/plot:
The Micronauts have been in a bit of a funk since returning to the devastated Homeworld...

...and this issue, a Secret Wars II tie-in, uses the Beyonder as a deus ex machina to get things moving again.

Marionette's legs are healed, Huntarr is given the ability to take a human form...

...and the Micronauts regain their motivation to go solve the problem afflicting the Microverse (because Scion has convinced the Beyonder to simply cull planets from the universe if the Micronauts won't find a better way).

As i've said before, this series is so isolated from the rest of the Marvel universe that it probably reads better in isolation, and that's true here even with the nominal Secret Wars II tie-in.

Even though i think Peter Gillis is generally speaking a better writer than Bill Mantlo, he is floundering on this series in way that Mantlo never did.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: This is a tie-in with Secret Wars II #6, but nothing about the story here requires it to take place directly after that issue.

Comments

This website makes a good point about the endings of Micronauts, ROM and Master of Kung Fu:
http://random-happenstance.blogspot.com/2011/12/end-week-master-of-kung-fu-125.html
All three series were organized around one key threat (Baron Karza, the Wraiths, Fu Manchu) and after the threats were defeated, nobody knew what to do with the series.
