Power Pack #45

Issue(s): Power Pack #45
Cover Date: Apr 89
Title: "Who am I this time?"
Credits:
Julianna Jones - Writer
June Brigman - Penciler
Hilary Barta - Inker
Marc McLaurin - Assistant Editor
Carl Potts - Editor

Review/plot:
The cover of this issue makes it seem like it's part of the Boogyman story that was part of Inferno, but aside from a dream sequence on the first two pages...

...it's really got nothing to do with it, except in the sense that the scare of having her parents briefly finding out about her powers has gotten Julie thinking about growing up. So basically she gets a job babysitting for someone else in their apartment building, and challenges herself to not user her powers the whole time. It mostly goes fine...

...except she has to call in her siblings to help clean up afterwards, and they use their powers for that.

It's just a little downtime issue, perfectly fine, and nice to see June Brigman on art again, but there's nothing here indicating a turnaround for this book.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: It's been "a week" since the fight with the Bogeyman.

References:

  • The Power parents found out about their kids powers from the Bogeyman in Power Pack #42-43, but last issue the New Mutants convinced them that it wasn't true.
  • Because she's changing grades, Julie and her friends are going to a new school next year (i assume high school), and they're worried because it has a rough reputation. The girl thieves from Power Pack #38 (incorrectly footnoted as #35) came from there. Allison McCourt tells them the school is fine, but it helps to have a boy around to protect you.
