ROM #23

Issue(s): ROM #23
Cover Date: Oct 81
Title: "The thing from outer space!"
Credits:
Bill Mantlo - Writer
Sal Buscema - Penciler
Joe Sinnott - Inker

Review/plot:
ROM's appearance in New York city has caused massive panic. A number of super-heroes, including Spider-Man, Daredevil, Moon Knight, and Captain America are shown to be scouring the city looking for him (Iron Man has opted to stay at the mansion in order to not alarm anyone who might mistake his armored suit for ROM's).

Power Man and Iron Fist have agreed to help ROM.

Having deduced that the Dire Wraiths were impersonating the Fantastic Four when they asked Luke to hunt down ROM, they now decide to head to the Baxter Building to see if the real FF are ok. ROM is also looking for a way off the planet, having heard from Wraiths in Limbo that Galador was destroyed. They sneak through the city, fight their way through the Baxter Building's defenses (including an army of HERBIEs!)...

...and eventually convince the FF of what's really going on. Reed sends ROM off into space in their captured Skrull Saucer.

Meanwhile, back in Clairton, West Virginia, the Torpedo is doing a terrible job of keeping the town safe while ROM is away.

Quality Rating: C-

Historical Significance Rating: 3 - the Marvel Universe super-hero community finds out about ROM and the Dire Wraiths

Chronological Placement Considerations: Continued directly from Power Man & Iron Fist #73. The Invisible Girl has (a poorly drawn version of) her new haircut.

The appearance of the other heroes is context free.

Comments

With all the times the FF loan out the Skrull saucer, they should pay the Skrulls for the ship.

I wouldn't say only ' one thing about l\' series.
Of all the artists in this title, only Sal Buscema (inked by himself) arrives to give a semblance of credibility to Rom and other.
All other visuals are either ugly or ridiculous, having most of the time l\ 'impression d\' have toys in action...
