Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #12

Issue(s): Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #12
Cover Date: Nov 64
Title: "When a Howler turns traitor!"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Dick Ayers - Penciler
George Roussos - Inker

Review/plot:
In this story, Nick Fury directs Dino Manelli to pretend to defect to the Nazis as part of a mission...

...but only Fury knows about it...

...and he's temporarily captured while Manelli is returned home to be tried as a traitor.

Everything works out fine in the end, of course, thanks in no small part to Gabe Jones' magic horn.

In the Doctor Zemo issue, i was noting that the Commandos typically deal with realistic technology and foes instead of death rays and super-villains and the like. Here's an example: the big challenge in this issue is locating a German rocket launch site, which turns out to be difficult to do because the rocket site is moved via train tracks. It's a legitimate challenge that doesn't require any super-science.

Anyway, here's some classic Fury:

Comments

You know, there's something about this comic that's more bearable than most other Marvel series of the time period. The writing comes off as a bit more natural and the art is less of a mess to look at. I think so, at least.
