Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #19

Issue(s): Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #19
Cover Date:
Title: "An eye for an eye!"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Dick Ayers - Penciler
Frank Giacoia - Inker

Review/plot:
With this issue, an angry Nick Fury heads to Holland (without permission, but with the Howlers and with the help of a friend in the airforce) to confront General Von Krumpt, leader of the Luftwaffe that executed the bomb raid that killed Pamela Hawley.

It's a Code approved book, so Fury can't just outright kill the guy, so there's a slightly convoluted and extended fight that ends with Von Krumpt falling off the wing of a plane.

This settles things for Fury...

...but as with most of these issues it makes you wonder why the war is taking so long. I mean, Fury and his team can pretty much go anywhere and kill anyone or blow up anything within the span of a single issue. If everyone else in the army would just pull their own weight, this could be all wrapped up by now.

Quality Rating: C-

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Since this is where Fury makes his peace over Pam Hawley's death, he shouldn't appear anywhere else between last issue and here.

  • While in Holland, the Commandos are aided by Agent X, aka Mayer Rooten, father of the team's mascot Hans, who they picked up in Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #15.
