Issue(s): Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #9
Cover Date: Aug 64
Title: "Mission: Capture Adolf Hitler"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Dick Ayers - Penciler
George Roussos - Inker

Review/plot: The Howlers are sent to capture Adolf Hitler. In the process they bump into Baron Von Strucker, who seems suspiciously way too willing to help them capture Hitler when they twist his arm.

The Commandos wind up capturing a body double instead of Hitler. But confirmation that Hitler does indeed use body doubles makes the mission a partial success.

If this story were written today, instead of just a plain look-a-like, this guy would have turned out to be a clone created by Arnim Zola or something.

In the "Things You Take For Granted" department, there's an editor's note explaining when we should assume people are speaking in German instead of English. Hadn't yet inveted the <> yet.

The lack of actual death in this war comic continues to be a bit distracting.

Nick Fury continues to date Pamela Hawley, and even cleans up his act when he's with her.

Lots of awkward footwork in this issue.

Percy thinks tea and crumpets are wizard.

More madness:

Min! I'm surprised you'd discriminate against the black guy! Inclusion!

(I know I'm responding to a quote from 9 years ago, so maybe times have changed since such a close-minded comment:-)

They sneak into Nazi Germany on a mission with only one member of the team who can speak German, too.
