Shogun Warriors #16

Issue(s): Shogun Warriors #16
Cover Date: May 80
Title: "Death of innocence"
Credits:
Doug Moench - Writer
Herb Trimpe - Penciler
Mike Esposito - Inker

Review/plot:
Moench tries to shake this book up a bit by changing the status quo, killing off the friendly aliens that have been working with the Shogun pilots...

...and putting the pilots in direct conflict with the bad aliens, who want to prevent Earth from developing technology that could be used to threaten extraterrestrial life. The aliens want to destroy the Shogun technology, as well as Fantastic Four, SHIELD, Doctor Doom, and Anthony Stark.

They try to make the case that they're not bad guys, it's just that the Earth isn't ready for such technology yet.

The Shogun Warriors fight off a giant preying mantis and tell the aliens to go to hell.

You know what would have really shaken this series up? Making the Shogun Warriors awesome intelligent bad-ass robots instead of dumb flight suits.

Comments

Herb Trimpe puts in a nice effort, but that sailboat attack you posted makes me wonder about the alternate world in which Jack Kirby did the art for this series. Something tells me the King would have found it enjoyable. Just imagine the giant monsters he would have dreamed up.
