Review/plot:
The Shogun Warriors show up at the Baxter Building to ask for the FF's help against the aliens that don't want the Earth to have space exploring technology.

As mentioned in issue #16, the aliens have the FF in their sights as well. Mr. Fantastic admonishes the Thing and the Torch for attacking their robot, since it's "one of the Shogun Warriors - like the Red Ronin robot SHIELD developed". It's a fair comparison based on design, but i don't think it's accurate; the Shogun Warriors are made from alien technology whereas the Red Ronin was made by Earth people. They're not really related, except superficially, as far as i know.

The aliens have sent a huge robot named Gingantauron to fight the Shogun Warriors.

The Shogun Warriors are using Combatra, which has five separate components. They've been using two mini-robots to pilot the remaining two modules. But now they've got the FF, so Reed and Sue take over. Oddly, the Thing, who is both a pilot and a super-strong rock man, is left behind to monitor the airwaves. The FF and the Shoguns are able to defeat Gingantauron, but the aliens keep attacking. Finally, though, one of the aliens in the charter that was meant to keep the Earth from exploring space changes her mind and realizes that her partner is more bloodthirsty and violent than the Earthlings, so she stops the attack.

These are the last issues of Shogun Warriors. The lettercol says that the decision was economic, and in part because Marvel intends to launch some new titles, including Moon Knight by Moench, and some other titles had to be canceled to make room.

They were cool looking robots, anyway.

Comments

Comics Journal #50 stated that Dangard Ace nearly got removed from the book due to conflicting overseas licensing issues.
