Review/plot:
Silver Sable confronts Luke Cage over Vatsayana's Tryst.

But Cage explains that he only wants the piece he was hired to get, and then they both realize that they've been told to bring their pieces to the same location - a nearby island - so they tentatively join forces, wary of whoever might want the Carnal Serpent that the Tryst will point the way to. They have to repel another attempt from Terror to acquire the Tryst...

...but they make it to the island and meet Priapus.

Instead of paying them, Priapus gives them orgasms...

...and then is reborn into his real form.

Well, his Code approved real form, anyway. Priapus is certainly an interesting choice of villain. You can't really depict him in his true classic form (Warning: Greco-Roman imagery!) and you have to be relatively circumspect about how he's affecting his opponents.

Cage and Sable are trapped in a net by Priapus' goons and (speaking of "classic) they're put in a shark-infested water trap.

And again, that's all that happens here. In this case there is Early Tales of Silver Sable back-up feature but even allowing for that fact that the main story is 5 pages short, there isn't a lot going on in each of these chapters. The crossover is still fun in a basic adventure way and Priapus adds a twisted layer. I actually appreciate that the story isn't cluttered by subplots with the Wild Pack, although that has pros and cons. Gregory Wright definitely has been putting in effort to make the Wild Pack characters distinct even though i don't think he's been doing a great job of it. So now you have a crossover that theoretically attracts new readers, but this book doesn't give them a sense of what Sable's book is really like. Personally, for the crossover i would have put the Early Years back-up on hold and given some space to the Wild Pack, maybe having them on a separate adventure.
