Review/plot:
The title of this issue is an acronym for "Garbage In, Garbage Out", and i kind of expect that that was Steve Englehart's attitude about this brief period where he was being forced to do simple stories.

In story, "Garbage In, Garbage Out" refers to Silver Surfer encountering a computer planet that has bad information and thinks that the Silver Surfer is still a herald of Galactus, so it attacks him to prevent itself from getting eaten. In the end, the Surfer reprograms it with his current status and promises to try to find another computer system that might beam it information to keep it up to date. It ends with the computer nonetheless trying to restore its original Silver Surfer file.

Let's just enjoy Ron Lim's art. Here's a scene where the Surfer gives himself some shades to deal with the computer world's brightness.

Here's some Pac-Man stuff.

The computer is able to slice up the Surfer's body with its lasers.

Fun simple story. Less of a "message" than last issue, but still nice to have a more simple story before diving back into the second Kree-Skrull War.

Quality Rating: B-

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: The Silver Surfer wonders if it's been "weeks" since he's just been wandering around randomly.

References:

  • In story, the reason for the Surfer's random wanderings is his depression after the death of Mantis in Fantastic Four #325.
  • The Surfer tells the computer that he gave up being Galactus' herald in Fantastic Four #50 and later escaped Earth in Silver Surfer #1.
