Review/plot:
Adam Warlock and the Silver Surfer go to Dr. Strange's for help with Thor. The house is standing (i note for continuity consideration purposes) but Wong does not answer the door. So the opening portion of this issue is Warlock and the Surfer wandering the rooms of Strange's house.

Eventually Strange finds them and agrees to help with Thor. He conjures Thor up in the Orb of Agamotto, and the first thing everyone realizes is that the Valkyrie is now visible thanks to Moondragon's actions last chapter. Then the rest of the Infinity Watch arrive at Strange's house.

Pip! Your head!

They all get ready to rejoin the fray. Separately, Sif has nursed Beta Ray Bill back to a semblance of health, and they are ready to get back into the battle as well.

So basically nothing happens in this issue. Not EVEN a big dumb fight. Dr. Strange gets recruited, and that's it. I mean, it's done well enough. It's cute to see Warlock and the Surfer walking around Strange's house. But the creators aren't exactly approaching this 13 part crossover economically.

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: This is part six of Blood and Thunder. Part seven is in Warlock Chronicles #7. Dr. Strange's house is still standing and Strange is not wearing his new mask and costume. So that places this before Siege of Darkness. That also places this before Secret Defenders #11, which is part three of Starblast. But as noted in prior entries, parts one and two of Starblast take place before or concurrently with earlier issues of Blood and Thunder. Wong is said to just be "out for the evening".

  • Thor's madness started in Thor #461.
  • Warlock tried to fight Thor in Warlock and the Infinity Watch #23 and then the rest of the Infinity Watch tried to fight him in Thor #469.

I like cheese as much as the next guy but the costumes of Moondragon and Gamora are ridiculous. At least you could explain Heather keeping everything in place telekinetically but Gamora?!? Any no-prize ideas to get in some comments here? ;)

To nick a line from the World's Worst Comics two-parter of years ago, Moondragon and Gamora's male enemies find it harder to concentrate on fighting when they've got erections.

I actually fight better with an erection.
Kidding. Innocent ol'me doesn't even know what an erection is.
;))
Distracting enemies only works so far and it doesn't really explain how Gamora keeps everything in place when she's fighting.

Lebowski, I have very fond memories of those 2 'World's Worst Comics' comics! (They were spot-on about how terrible Roy Thomas' dialogue is, but I digress.)

Think Gamora's get-up is revealing? In the 'Modesty Blaise' novels and comic strips, she occasionally disrobes entirely as a way of distracting her enemies!

Oh, I know about Modesty Blaise and her "nailer" tactic. O'Donnell didn't write the story where she tries it on a gay man who just yawns and shoots her.

If comics companies were serious about getting more female readers the costumes of their women characters need to be addressed. Or to put it another way, their female characters need to be dressed.
