Spectacular Spider-Man annual #11 (Rhino)

Issue(s): Spectacular Spider-Man annual #11 (Rhino story only)
Cover Date: 1991
Title: "One track mind!"
Credits:
Terry Kavanagh - Script
Gerry Conway - Plot
Ron Wilson - Penciler
Bud LaRosa - Inker
Danny Fingeroth - Editor

Review/plot:
This story has the Rhino working with a gang of criminals to rob a bank vault so that he can get money to pay to have his suit removed. The story is pretty inconsequential. It seems to have been plotted by Gerry Conway before he left, and it's scripted by Terry Kavanagh. And what's weird about it is that Kavanagh scripts it so that the Rhino only speaks in single words.

And indeed, the title suggests that's the point of the story. Well, that and a pun on the word "track".

Kinda dumb, especially since we've seen Rhino being more articulate both before and after this, and Spider-Man learning why the Rhino was seeking money might have made for a more interesting story.

That said, i never mind Ron Wilson drawing the Rhino.

Quality Rating: C-

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: A footnote confirms that this story takes place before Deadly Foes of Spider-Man, which results in the Rhino getting out of his extra-armored suit.

Comments

What happened to Ron Wilson? The guy was never flashy but had a dependable traditional style that was better than this. This looks like the kind of pencils you'd see in a coloring book.
