Tales Of Suspense #56 (Watcher)

Issue(s): Tales Of Suspense #56 (Watcher story only)
Cover Date: Aug 64
Title: "The Watcher's Sacrifice"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Plot
Larry Lieber - Script
Larry Lieber - Penciler
George Roussos - Inker

Review/plot:
The Watcher falls in love with an alien princess but, after rescuing her from attacking soldiers, acts mean and aloof to her because he can not marry.

Back on earth, Johnny Storm remarks to the Thing that the Watcher has an easy job. Ah, the bitter irony!

We also learn that the Watcher's micro-brain waves are constantly attuned to signs of danger, and that he travels the universe by converting himself into mental energy.

Quality Rating: D+

Historical Significance Rating: 2

Chronological Placement Considerations: The Iron Man half of this story takes place between Avengers #6-7. The FF appearance takes place "a few months later" but since the Watcher's appearance has no dependencies i'm including them all as Characters Appearing.

Comments

things i learned in this issue:
1) anti-matter brings about asexual reproduction
2) Release the space beasts!
3) using your body to prevent a murder absolutely does not qualify as interference.
4) being mean to someone and calling them names is totally the best way to not hurt their feelings
