Tales Of Suspense #85-86 (Iron Man)Issue(s): Tales Of Suspense #85, Tales Of Suspense #86 (Iron Man stories only) Review/plot: The Mandarin is knocking Iron Man around, not realizing it's Happy Hogan in the armor. Meanwhile, Stark leaves the hospital with no regard for his heart condition and designs a new set of Iron Man armor. He heads off to China on a rocket (!) and shows up at the Mandarin's lair just before Happy is executed. The real Iron Man wins a tough fight with the Mandarin... ...and blows up his base with a missile that was intended to start a war between China and the US. Gene Colan's art is so different than anything we've seen so far. It adds a new level of dramatic realism that we haven't seen before. Quality Rating: C+ Chronological Placement Considerations: The MCP places this before Avengers #32. References: N/A Crossover: N/A Continuity Insert? Posted by: min | July 7, 2014 8:21 AM Tony isn't really going to have to make good on that "double your fare" promise to the cabbie, given that he had his heart attack in Washington D.C. and so cabbing to Long Island in 20 minutes probably isn't going to happen. Actually, hiring the jet sounds like a much better idea. I suppose he could have been transferred to a hospital in New York, behind the scenes, but IIRC Stan gets called out on this in a subsequent letters page and admits the goof, so… it's a good thing Happy wasn't being tortured or in any imminent danger of dying or anything since Tony took the time to build, test, and tweak and entirely new set of armor before heading out to rescue him. Hey, that's why Stark pays Happy the big bucks! You wanna whine about a little torture, don't expect a big bonus at Xmas time… Posted by: Dan Spector | September 2, 2016 10:19 PM I liked this story at the time and was glad to see Sen. Byrd get off Tony's case. Posted by: Bobby Sisemore | November 8, 2016 6:26 PM Happy is a loyal stooge, he can handle some torture!
