Tales To Astonish #65 (Giant-Man/Wasp)Issue(s): Tales To Astonish #65 (Giant-Man/Wasp stories only) Review/plot: Curiously, Pym focuses on growing his test subject... ![]() ...but clearly the power to shrink them would have enormous value. The Wasp takes the opportunity of Pym upgrading his helmet to design a totally new costume for him. We've seen her designing variations in her costume for a while now but this is the first time she's created a whole new costume for someone else (although Pym wishes she'd call it a "uniform" instead of a "costume"). She also finds that she likes the work, joking that she should give up "wasping" and "get a job with Christian Dior". This will remain an important part of her character. ![]() I have to say that her attempt here isn't really very good... ![]() ...but hey, she's a beginner. In real life, i wonder if this was actually designed by Bob Powell or another Marvel artist. The new ability (which is back to the drawing board by the end of the issue) and costume is the focus here, but of course we also have to have some classic Pym incompetence so a good portion of the issue is him fighting a spider that he accidentally enlarged. ![]() This issue at least ends with a nice panel of Hank and Janet actually getting along for once. ![]() Quality Rating: D+ Chronological Placement Considerations: Giant-Man gets a new costume in this issue, placing this between Avengers #14-15, and after Fantastic Four #36 but before the Rick Jones back-up in Captain America #221. I'm not sure who designed it (Powell or Heck, I would assume) but it looks more DC than Marvel to me. Also, yet another Christian Dior reference from Lee. I had no idea Stan was so fashion-conscious.
