Thing #7

Issue(s): Thing #7
Cover Date: Jan 84
Title: "Two-fisted feet!"
Credits:
John Byrne - Writer
Ron Wilson - Penciler
Hilary Barta - Inker

Review/plot:
This is one of the better 'zany' Assistant Editors' Month issues. The majority of the book is the Thing fighting an absolutely ridiculous villain.

Then, in the back-up (written and drawn by Byrne), the Thing shows up at the Marvel office upset about this issue.

It seems that the Thing did indeed fight a "Goody Two Shoes", but John Byrne embellished it a bit.

Very cute.

John Byrne's office in this issue is drawn exactly like the Sub-Mariner's office from Fantastic Four #9.

Incredibly obscure homage. I'm impressed with that, and the fact that a reader was able to point it out in the lettercol for issue #12 (i would never have noticed).

The Thing almost proposes to Alicia at the beginning of this issue - we're assured in the lettercol for issue #12 that this did indeed "happen" even though the majority of this issue was a joke.

Quality Rating: B-

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Alicia Masters is still in the hospital this issue.
