Thor #145

Issue(s): Thor #145
Cover Date: Oct 67
Title: "Abandoned on Earth!"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Jack Kirby - Penciler
Vincent Colletta - Inker

Review/plot:
Balder, Sif, and Thor turn Magnir and Bron over to the police. Odin has defeated Forsung and wants the Asgardians to return home, but Thor wants to stay on Midgard. Odin gets very angry and strips Thor of all his powers but his strength.

With nothing better to do, Thor decides to join the circus (of course) and (of course) picks the Circus of Crime.

Adding injury to insult, Thor is hypnotized by the Ringmaster.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 2

Chronological Placement Considerations: This starts soon after the end of the previous issue. This issue ends with Thor hypnotized by the Ringmaster, and he therefore shouldn't appear anywhere else until the beginning of next issue.

Comments

Reading through Thor in order again and, man, these last four or five issues have really felt like a regression from the amazing stuff Kirby & Lee were doing. The art is better but the stories almost feel as inconsequential as the earlier JIM stuff. I know it gets back on track and there's more amazing stuff to come but the 'wow' factor hasn't been as strong since the High Evolutionary or Ulik issues.

Odin's flip-out was so unhinged, I thought it would turn out that the Enchanter he'd fought had taken control of him. But nope, it's just Odin being a dick.

Odin's rant after defeating the Enchanters is just epic in it's lunacy.

I AM ODIN! GREATEST OF ALL TIME! ALL BOW BEFORE ME! TAKE THAT YOU LOSERS!

He's like the guy that gets way too excited after winning his beer league softball game.
