Issue(s): Thor #162
Cover Date: Mar 69
Title: "Galactus is born!" (or, as the cover says, "Galactus A'Borning!")
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Jack Kirby - Penciler
Vincent Colletta - Inker

Review/plot:
Unsatisfactory origin of Galactus, part one.

After convincing the Rigellians to not dismantle the Recorder...

...Thor returns to Asgard. Odin shows the Asgardians a video of the (or should i say 'an') origin of Galactus. It involves a space battle where a planet defense force opens up an Incuba-cell that has been in their orbit for untold ages, hoping that whatever is inside will defend them from an invading fleet.

Galactus comes out, destroys the fleet, and then eats the planet! Nice one!

Obviously there's more to Galactus' origin than that, but that's all that is offered at this time.

Then Thor heads off to Earth because Sif is in trouble, per Odin's advisor Torger.

Meanwhile, Balder is agonizing over the fact that he is in love with Karnilla the Norn Queen after all.

I also just wanted to say that i really enjoy the Warriors Three. They don't do very much, but Volstagg and company crack me up.

Some collage work from Kirby.

And some Asgardian hat porn.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 5 - an origin of Galactus

Chronological Placement Considerations: Thor is still out near Rigel in the beginning of this issue. He shouldn't appear in other books between the end of issue #161 and this issue.

Comments

The GCD credits Vince Colletta with inks. The Thor figure on page 6 certainly supports this.

It's actually what the title page says too. Credits updated. Thanks.

Warriors Three never fail to get a laugh from me.

Volstagg! The epitome of gluttony with the heart of a true warrior (what a great dichotomy and feel good character)
