Review/plot:
As i've said before, the good thing about Thor during this period where he's mind controlled is that he gets to go around and fight a bunch of cool characters. In this issue it's the Super-Skrull. As we saw in Infinity Crusade #3, at this point the Goddess' war suppression effect has made its way out to the Skrulls, and the Super-Skrull, who is unaffected for reasons unexplained, is not happy about it.

So Super-Skrull heads out to confront the Goddess. Moondragon sends Thor to stop him.

Fun! And the art, while not great, is looking a little better than last issue's. That may have been a Hercules-specific problem. I do like Bruce Zick's dynamicism. The flow of the fight is great. I remember being disappointed by the Silver Age Thor/Super-Skrull fight when i tracked it down. This one shows Super-Skrull using his full array of powers in interesting ways.

The Valkyrie briefly tries to reassert herself again, but Thor turns away from her again and returns to Paradise Omega.

References:

  • We saw in Infinity Crusade #3 that the Goddess' message has reached the Skrulls and the Shi'ar.
  • Thor fought the Super-Skrull previously in Thor #142 (there is a footnote, surprisingly, but it incorrectly points to #162).
  • Pluto continues to press the case against Thor to Zeus after the attack in Thor #462. Zeus considers sending Hermes to deliver a message to Odin, but Pluto convinces him to go himself.
  • Super-Skrull wants to be restored to the rank that was stripped from him in Fantastic Four annual #24.
  • Thor chose the Goddess over the Valkyrie in Thor #463.

Comments

I got the book up to this issue and then dropped it. Never recovered until THOR started with Jane Foster. Seems I like the replacements better, as I enjoyed THUNDERSTRIKE as well. The story and art in this issue was not my cup of tea.
