Review/plot:
Thor returns to Wundagore, checks in on everyone, and then leaves again. He briefly gets into a fight with the Godpack member Blitziana, who has been giving him a hard time since they met (it's also implied that she's got a crush on him). Blitziana just wants Thor to quit leaving Wundagore.

A development in this issue is that the Godpack realize that their weapons aren't magical; all their power comes from them. This makes sense; as Thor says, the High Evolutionary causes lifeforms to evolve, not weapons (on the other hand, the High Evolutionary has plenty of high tech stuff, too).

Thor says that he's not coming back to Wundagore after this, but he'll be back.

This is kind of a bridge issue, not doing too much plotwise.

As Michael notes in the comments, at the beginning of this issue, Thor is attacked by a pilot from one side or the other in the civil war in "once-Yugoslavia", and the bullets from the plane just bounce off of him. In fact, they don't even get Thor to shut up for a second.

He takes an explosion from that heat-seeking missile like a champ, too.

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: It's been "two days" since Thor left Wundagore in issue #476. There's no telling how long Thor flies around before deciding to go to Avengers Mansion at the start of next issue, so i'm going to allow this book to catch back up with its publication date.

References:

  • Not really a reference, but in the last arc, Odin said that he told the High Evolutionary in a dream to avoid the area where he was storing Donald Blake. Thor asks the Evolutionary why he didn't tell Thor about that. The Evolutionary says it's because he forgot about it and because he's written off all those kinds of mystic sensations as the effect of Ch'thon. We saw that Ch'thon had a presence in Wundagore circa Avengers #186.

Comments

One thing this issue is noteworthy for is being perhaps the only issue before Civil War where bullets clearly bounce off of Thor. Whenever a debate about whether Thor is bulletproof came up, this issue was always cited.
