Tomb of Dracula #54

Issue(s): Tomb of Dracula #54
Cover Date: Mar 77
Title: "'Twas the night before Christmas"
Credits:
Marv Wolfman - Writer
Gene Colan - Penciler
Tom Palmer - Inker

Review/plot:
Rachel Van Helsing forms an uneasy alliance with Anton Lupeski, who is worried that Dracula knows that he is conspiring against him...

...and she rounds up the gang and goes after Dracula.

The battle ends when Domini gives birth to Dracula's son and demands that the fighting stop.

If i were Dracula i'd be a little suspicious that my kid looked more like the "demon" i fought a few issues back than me, but that's not covered here.

I tell you, i was pretty excited to see the team actually going up against Dracula. It really seemed like they had a shot of beating him, or at least causing him to suffer a major setback. I could have done without the "Peace On Earth" ending, but this was fun.

Quality Rating: B

Historical Significance Rating: 2 - birth of Dracula's child, Janus

Chronological Placement Considerations: I don't normally do this, and i can't promise i ever will again, but this story is meant to take place on Christmas Eve and so is the story in Son of Satan #8 so i've put them next to each other. It's not too far off from publication date, in any event.

Comments

Ha!Dracula should demand a paternity test.

From the looks of Lupeski's kisser, apparently the Church of Satan didn't offeer much of a dental plan. Actually, his face kinda resembles Tatterdemalion's when his red scarf is dropped.
