Review/plot:
Another in a string of... i don't even know if it's right to call them fill-ins. Web hasn't really had a regular writer aside from David Michelinie's truncated run, so now we are just back to random stories. This is another one that must be an inventory story, because it features Spider-Man in his blue and reds.

The villain of the piece is a goon called Headhunter.

And the plot involves the chairman of a car company that was in financial ruins until a company called ESI gave him the help he needed to be a success. And all he needed to do in return was give away his first born son. Imagine finding this laying around the house.

Dave Simons's chunky art and the popping flexographic colors help make this weird story a fun ride.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Ben Urich is the only other character appearing, so i've pushed this back before Born Again (and Missing In Action, when Spidey's red and blue costume is destroyed).

Comments

Dave Simons must have had a nice action figure collection when he drew this. Headhunter looks like a combination of Gung-Ho, Ripper, and Torch from G.I.Joe with He-Man's battle axe.

Dave was doing a fair Ditko impression here.
