Web of Spider-Man #49Issue(s): Web of Spider-Man #49 Review/plot: ![]() ...while MJ tries to navigate the bureaucracy of getting Lorraine into a rehab clinic. ![]() In the end Lorraine manages to get drugs from a different dealer and winds up in the hospital, and another dealer arrives to replace the one Spider-Man chased away (actually, the guy ended up getting killed by his boss). ![]() Bleak and definitely a "message" issue, but David's writing makes it engaging. ![]() Peter does get some good photos out of his experience. ![]() Quality Rating: B- Chronological Placement Considerations: Peter and MJ haven't been kicked out of their apartment yet, placing this before Amazing Spider-Man #314. References: N/A Crossover: N/A Continuity Insert? N My Reprint: N/A Inbound References (1): showCharacters Appearing: Kate Cushing, Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man CommentsI was really taken by this issue. At first, it seemed to be another drug PSA, but I think it really shows the depths of these characters and the cynicism of its time very well. MJ acts naively about the solution to her friend's drug problem, while at the same time criticizing Peter at the end for his "pollyanna" attitude. Meanwhile, Spidey's actions get a man he doesn't even know killed, and Peter actually ends up profiting from this. It's especially poignant to compare Peter's actions at the end of this story with the ending of Web #9. Deep stuff, and a great note for PAD to go out on.
