Review/plot:
Among the fighting, this issue gives us an explanation for why Demogoblin talks like a religious nut. Apparently he's from a pious order of demons.

Makes you wonder why N'astirh would have picked that particular demon to infuse into Jason Macondale.

We also see that Doppelganger's protective attitude towards Spider-Man that we saw last issue wasn't a fluke.

Beyond that, we just have a lot of fighting and Team-Ups between some admittedly cool characters.

If i wasn't already suffering from crossover overload, i'd probably be enjoying this more. That said, virtually nothing of importance happens in these middle issues. I'm not (just) being lazy by not describing the ins and outs of the plot. They fight in the sewer for two issues. None of the specifics matter.

"Makes you wonder why N'astirh would have picked that particular demon to infuse into Jason Macondale."
Actually, that makes sense from N'astirh's point of view. If you want to punish someone, why not infuse him with a religious nutcase demon as opposed to just your regular garden-variety demon?

This was the only Spirits of Venom issue I read back in the day. I like the cover, at least.

My problem with this is that Demogoblin is supposed to come from Limbo: a place with demons that don't seem to be tied to religion etc. It'd make much more sense for a "pious sect of demons" to come from one of the Marvel Hells...

This was it for Howard Mackie on Web of Spider-Man, which seemed sudden, although he would move to Spider-Man and write the character for years and years.

And play a large part in destroying Spider-Man, and Marvel, for an entire generation of fans.
