Web of Spider-Man annual #1Issue(s): Web of Spider-Man annual #1 Review/plot: Max builds an exo-suit that he trades with a con artist who tells him that he can put him in contact with Reed Richards who will fix his nerve problems. Spider-Man encounters a robot that Max built... ...and later shows up at Max's science fair and is impressed with his work... ...so that's how he's there to stop the con artist. The con artist talks in a variety of ever changing personas, mostly borrowed from Hollywood. At the end of the story, Max gets the confidence to talk to the girl in the apartment next store. He'd previously been talking to her through a brick wall but was afraid to let her see his leg braces. It's all very Nocenti ("I gotta catch one and see how they work!")... ...but it's a good story. It's the sort of thing i would have been pissed to get as a higher priced annual at the time because "nothing happens". Looking at it as one of a million stories in my collection, it's a nice change of pace, albeit a bit fluffy. One nice thing is this is a case where the Flexographics really works well. The scans may be a little faded, but the art and coloring look really nice on my physical copy. It really pops out. File this in your Mr. Fantastic's a dick collection. "Sorry kid, can't help with your degenerative nerve disorder. Gotta improve the efficiency on my reducta-craft." I had to read this sequence twice because i first though they were talking about the miscarriage: Seems like a risky way to check the guy's credibility; the FF are a very public family so a lot of people probably know how many children they have. Quality Rating: C+ Chronological Placement Considerations: The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #270-271. References: N/A Crossover: N/A Continuity Insert? N My Reprint: N/A
Commentsbut wait! what happens? Posted by: George Gordon | March 1, 2014 2:28 AM Not the best Nocenti work for sure, but certainly not bad.. the silly dialogue by the villain hurt this one a bit. And I agree this story is VERY Nocenti! Posted by: RikFenix | May 16, 2016 7:51 PM I just love that Spidey made a facehugger out of webbing. Of course he did, he's a giant geek! Thanks to sliding time scale, he probably grew up watching those films with Uncle Ben.
