Review/plot:
This is Wolverine '95, the annual, not to be confused with Wolverine #95, which was also out this year (and which i also happen to have).

The first story has Nightcrawler coming to the X-Mansion to visit Wolverine, only to find out that Wolverine has been living out on the grounds and is going feral. The two of them wind up in the N'Gari dimension, fighting Kierrok and his demons.

Nightcrawler has to convince Wolverine that it's not worth it to just give in to his feral side and stay in the N'Gari dimension fighting demons forever.

This being the third occasion where the N'Gari have come through, it seems like it's time to address the coincidence that a N'Gari cairn exists on the Xavier estate. You'd think the X-Men would decide to have Dr. Strange or someone (Amanda Sefton?) over to check things out or seal it up permanently.

In the second story, Maverick convinces Wolverine to help rescue Deadpool, who has been captured by some people who think that Deadpool's healing factor might cure the Legacy Virus. The group that captured Deadpool is using Slayback as muscle.

Deadpool is rescued, the bad organization is captured by G.W. Bridge and SHIELD, and it's confirmed that the healing factor was not a cure for the Legacy Virus.

Both stories are just fine; better than average for an annual.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Boomer is with the X-Men (with no reference or reason given).

References:

  • The X-Men dealt with the N'Gari previously in Uncanny X-Men #96 and Uncanny X-Men #143.
  • Boomer is upset that Wolverine attacked Sabretooth in Wolverine #90.
  • Wolverine reminds Maverick that the last time they met, Maverick tried to get Wolverine to kill him because Maverick has the Legacy Virus. That was probably in Wolverine #87.

Crossover: N/A
