X-Man #19Issue(s): X-Man #19 Review/plot: I joked in the X-Force issue that Mr. Sinister's real super-power is the ability to imply that he knows something about you that even you don't know, but it's also possible he has the ability to put everyone to sleep by monologuing. Sinister just goes on and on, 'splainin' and 'splainin' about stuff. Sinister has Threnody held prisoner and guarded by Scalphunter and Arclight. They note that no one is able to escape Sinister, citing Malice. But Threnody says that "the Cajun'" managed to escape. She tries to escape but they hunt her down. X-Man shows up to rescue her, and he seems to have overcome Mr. Sinister's ability to shut down his powers. But then a portal opens and X-Man sees Franklin Richards. It's a trap, and Nate is grabbed by Onslaught. One random bit: Sinister's narration says that "The Onslaught Avatar Grows with... each and every psi-lord it gathers inside its void". I thought that was worth mentioning both because it makes it sounds like Onslaught is going around collecting tons of telepaths and not just one so far (or two if you count Xavier) and also because the one telepath that has been captured was literally called Psi-Lord when he was replaced by his future self until about a (publication) month ago. As with a bunch of issues in this crossover, we're shown the Sentinels as they stomp around, but it's not clear what their purpose is. Also, Onslaught seems to spend most of his time just hovering. Quality Rating: D Chronological Placement Considerations: I already noted that this and the previous issue are "Phase" issues while the X-Force #57, which they directly tie into, is an "Impact" issue. But also of note is that this is a "Phase 2" issue while last issue was a "Phase 1" issue. Considering it's all a directly continuing story, i don't know how we suddenly moved between Phases (and Onslaught still has his Phase 1 look when we briefly see him; or really he looks like Iron Man in Magneto's color scheme, but that's closer to Phase 1 than Phase 2.). Regardless, this continues directly from X-Force #57 and it makes the most sense to read it directly afterwards. Franklin Richards has been captured at this point (so after Fantastic Four #415). X-Man next appears in X-Men #56 but a lot of other things happen or are happening before that. X-Man #20 reveals that Abomination helps Threnody in this issue, so he's listed as a character appearing. References:
