Keeping Up the Pressure

I like Harry Reid, i have to admit it.

Against Patents

I printed this out a while ago to read in the bafroom, and i'm finally around to reading it and i thought i'd share it with my imaginary audience.

They keep stringing me along

Fitzgerald is gonna indict Cheney, says some guy i've never heard of, via Kos.

Meanwhile Reid is calling on Bush to pledge that he won't pardon Libby if he's convicted.  It's the second graf in the top headline story on Yahoo news.  If the Democrats can keep the press focused on getting Bush to pledge that (min: "Yeah, right."), it's really the only way anything could possibly come of this.   Otherwise Libby knows if he keeps his mouth shut and takes the fall, he'll be taken care of.  Just like Ollie North and John Poindexter.

Not the biggest Fitzmas ever

But Libby's indicted and has resigned.  Fitzgerald says that the bulk of the investigation is over but he's not quite done.   Still sounds like Rove is off the hook, and certainly no one else is in any trouble.  It's hard to tell though.  Unlike, say, Kenneth Starr, Fitzgerald is a freaking Bloodguard.  He won't comment on anything other than the current indictment. I've been sitting here for an hour listening to Fitzgerald tell reporters he's not going to comment on their question. It's driving the press (and me!) crazy.

The Liberal Media

Keith Olbermann was yelled at by having liberal guests on his show two times in three days, a time period in which he interviewed 9 guests.

He'll be out of a job soon anyway, right?

Cursor linked to this old page full of Donald Rumsfeld's beautiful poetry, and i started thinking it'd be perfect as a spoken word compliment our band's instrumental music.

"the fact of the matter is the United States was never interested in disarming Iraq"

Seymour Hersh interviews Scott Ritter.

"And the ultimate tragedy of this is that from that point on, every time a UN weapons inspector went into Iraq--somebody with a blue hat--they weren't viewed by the Iraqis as somebody who was trying to disarm Iraq, they were viewed by the Iraqis as somebody trying to kill their President, and they were right."

"But you know what? The media only feeds the American people the poison they're willing to swallow. And we the people of the United States of America seem to want our news in no more than three-minute chunks with sound bites of thirty seconds or less, and it can't be too complicated."

From bad to... also bad Part II

Some people are seeing this as a good thing since it's a defeat for Bush, but I can't see how the next nominee can be any better.  Miers was a crony, but at least she wasn't a right-wing ideologue.  The next nominee will be.   The only possible salvation is if Fitzgerald really does indict everyone and Bush is forced to resign or is impeached.  Even then, you have to go pretty far down the line of succession to get to someone who's not going to nominate a right wing hack.
